Pathfinder recently partnered with an international refining client to conduct a Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI) Industrial Assessment at the conclusion of FEL 3. This engagement applied a rigorous, value-driven methodology to verify the completeness, maturity, and accuracy of the project’s FEL 3 deliverables, ensuring the foundation was strong before moving into the project execution phase.
Rather than treating the PDRI as a checklist exercise, our team facilitated a structured assurance review designed to provoke meaningful dialogue and objective evaluation. We performed an in-depth analysis of project documentation, interviewed key stakeholders, and challenged participants during the workshop to assess the true maturity of their FEL 3 deliverables. The focus was on collaboration, transparency, and accountability, which are essential elements of effective front-end planning.
The assessment validated the project’s scope, interface definition, contracting strategy, governance structure, and Owner decision-making framework, confirming that each element was ready to support a smooth and well-controlled transition into execution. Particular attention was given to identifying potential gaps where inadequate definition could threaten downstream, project execution performance.
By combining stage-gate project validation with structured facilitation, Pathfinder helped the client strengthen front-end discipline and reinforce project execution readiness. The result was greater confidence in project alignment, improved risk visibility, and a clear roadmap for moving forward with a well-defined scope of work and execution strategy prior to initiating project execution.
