The Food & Beverage industry continues to realize low margin growth in North America but global increased demands are driving capital spending. The world population, which sits around 7 billion, is expected to reach 10 billion people by the year 2040. Most of this growth will be in growing economic regions of the world. The increased food demand impacts not only agriculture but also live stock, poultry and aquatic foods sources. This in combination with an ever decreasing harvestable and fertile land mass is driving the Food Industry to develop innovative solutions to the worlds food needs. The beverage industry is also aggressively developing innovative products in support of the world’s food needs as well as the ever changing dietary needs of the population growth.
This environment results in steady capital project activity across the globe. The North American programs are rather small with limited major project expansion programs but in the growth economies, capital spending is active. Manufacturing, packaging, storage and transportation facilities are needed to support these growing regions. The Food and Beverage capital project planning and execution community suffers from many of the same constraints as other industries. Limited project leadership skills, extensive competition for project engineering and construction resources, a lack of defined and frozen scope definition at project authorization as well as other basic project management principles wreak havoc throughout the industry.
Basic Project Management principles and practices have never been more important and applicable than in today’s Food & Beverage industry. Pathfinder has been active in this industry for over 20 years providing detailed project delivery processes, project management and related topic training and cost certainty assessments. These services respect the regulatory requirements of the region of the project as well as the Best Practices required to support projects in this highly regulated industry. Pathfinder has also been active in providing program and portfolio management support for the multiple project environment often encountered in this industry. Master planning and resource leveling of these programs were some of the benefits realized through Pathfinder’s services.
